Lien : http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/e46a3f7a-3d5d ... fd2ac.html BA begins new transatlantic service in Paris By Kevin Done in London Published & Last updated: June 18 2008 20:26 British Airways launches its first direct flights on Thursday between continental Europe and the US. It is starting a daily service between Paris Orly and New York JFK airports using a subsidiary carrier called OpenSkies. The operation has been created to take advantage of the US/European Union “open skies” treaty to liberalise transatlantic aviation, which came into force at the end of March. BA is considering adding other continental European destinations from New York, including Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt and Milan. Intéressant ! --------------------- Willie Walsh, BA chief executive, said he believed OpenSkies could “compete effectively” in spite of the recent deterioration in the economic climate and rising fuel costs, which are forcing many airlines to cut capacity in the coming winter season. Mr Walsh said the operation, which has been kept separate from the rest of the group’s services, had a low cost base and would be supported by BA in key areas such as sales and marketing. Ce type d'assistance est légitime selon les lois sur la concurrence (même principe de "cost-spread" que dans le cadre des Alliances). ---------------------------- “This differentiates it from some new airlines that have failed recently, which were operating in isolation without the backing of an established carrier,” he said. The pilots have been recruited separately to the group’s mainline BA operation and cabin crew have been hired in the US. The setting up of OpenSkies led to a fierce industrial dispute between BA and its mainline pilots earlier this year, but the pilots abandoned their opposition because of the scale of the costs involved in fighting a threatened legal action by BA. Si les syndicats français étaient obligés de financer à 100% leurs grèves ? --------------------------- Mr Walsh said the subsidiary, which is being managed from New York, would become a test-bed for new customer services and onboard products the group hoped to integrate into the BA fleet. The airline is planning to operate six Boeing 757s – taken from its existing fleet – in the OpenSkies subsidiary by the end of 2009, each with 82 seats shared between business, premium economy and economy cabins. The new services will take BA into direct long-haul competition for the first time in the home markets of some of its biggest European rivals, starting with Air France in Paris. Oui ! Cela va être intéressant ! BA has secured access to Paris Orly airport by agreeing a deal with L’Avion, the small French all-business class carrier, to use a pair of its take-off and landing slots. Intelligent (de toutes façons, cettea affaire es tgéré par Marc ROCHET, ex-PDG d'Air Liberté, lorsque cette cie. était filiale de BA ! L’Avion is putting its flight code on the OpenSkies service, allowing it to sell the service as a third daily Paris-New York service in addition to its existing two daily services between Orly and New York Newark. Du "me-tooing" de la part d'ATWOnline, mais ceci confirme le lancement aujourd'hui de la filiale "OpenSkies" de BA. Lien: http://www.atwonline.com/news/other.htm ... F19%2F2008 British Airways subsidiary OpenSkies is scheduled to operate its first daily flight today between Paris Orly and New York JFK aboard a three-class, 82-seat 757. "While the economic climate has worsened in recent months, we believe that OpenSkies can compete effectively," BA CEO Willie Walsh said. "It has a low cost base and support from British Airways in key areas such as sales and marketing. This differentiates it from some new airlines that have failed recently which were operating in isolation without the backing of an established carrier." |
